After 18 years and more than 1,600 political cartoons, I’ve decided to retire my weekly comic. This is a decision long in the making, one I’ve slowly walked myself up to over the years, and have recently decided is time to commit to. My last cartoon was two weeks ago.

I will continue to run The Nib in an almost full time capacity, publishing and editing our magazine and daily comics, while making some space in my life for other kinds of comics that I’m excited about but have never had the time to fully pursue.

This week marks six years since I launched The Nib as an outlet for political cartoons and non-fiction. Since then we’ve been through two major publishers and as of last month are now running independently. As you might imagine, I’ve been thinking a lot in recent weeks about what we’ve done and where we’re going from here.

It was reported Friday that First Look Media made the decision to end funding for The Nib along with shuttering the web magazine Topic.com at the end of July. That is true and something that I’ve been dealing with the results of for a few weeks now.

That leaves me writing yet another post on Medium (heh) about what the future of The Nib will look like.
